The "Nothing" box.

Happy Monday lovelies!

I must apologize for being a little absent last week. With a friend having her baby and a spare of the moment getaway, I found myself unable to write Friday and Saturday. Don't worry though, this week we'll continue the marriage series and Styling Saturdays.

Today, I want to introduce everyone to the "nothing" box.

What's that you ask?

Well I'll tell you. The nothing box is a place where men go on a regular basis. You know the times when you ask your boyfriend, spouse, son, or any other man in your life what they're thinking about and they answer with "nothing."

Don't you just hate that? I always think, there's no way you're thinking absolutely nothing!

Last year some time, my husband and I went to a Christian comedy show hosted by Chick-Fil-A. The theme was marriage so the comedian's sketch centered around relationships and family. As he went on, he started talking about how men and women think so differently. He accurately described my brain down to the "T;" a million highways of information intersecting, bypassing, but never crashing. I am truly a woman who knows how to multi-task.

When he started in on the men, I was surprised to see that he described my husband perfectly too. Apparently his thinking is normal manly behavior. Bah humbug. At one point he started talking about a concept that was completely foreign to me; the "nothing" box. He described it as a place where men go in their minds to think about you guessed it, nothing.

Seriously, how can anyone think about absolutely nothing?

It's been an ongoing joke with my husband and I ever since.

I must admit I was still unconvinced of its actual existence until I found my nothing box for the first time, in my entire life, on my little Babymoon getaway this weekend.

It was so strange for me. I was sitting in the ambiance of Starbucks on Sunday morning, sipping my Caramel Frappucino, listening to the music, and just staring at the clouds. For the first time my mind was actually blank. Completely blank! I was thinking about anything, worrying about anything, or planning anything. Nope, I was simply staring off into space.

I must tell you, I'm never at a loss for words when I'm with my hubby. We talk, throw around ideas, and laugh for hours so my silence must have astounded him. I kept feeling him stare at me funny until he finally asked, "What are you thinking about?"

As I contemplated that question, the only answer I could come up with was nothing.

He didn't buy it and actually interrupted my time in the "nothing" box twice more before he realized I was actually telling the truth. His little worry wart wife had finally entered the zone of nothingness and oh was he so proud. We had a good laugh about it the rest of the day.

My question to you,

Do you usually find yourself overly busy in your mind? I'm talking so busy that you make your own head hurt? You my friend are in dire need of a nothing box.

I must tell you though, they're really hard to find. It took me twenty-five years before I found mine thanks to the city of Naples.

Here's my nothing box, where will you find yours?

  1. My boyfriend and I talk about that all the time. I seriously have never witnessed the nothing box but he does all the time!

  2. I've been known to find my nothing box. Depending on the mood...and coffee in hand and a beautiful sunny day will be the prescription I need to block it all out...I find when my mind is cluttered with all sorts of things...I remind myself to step back, deep breath and imagine a time and place that soothes my soul. It also helps me to change the scenery, so-to-speak, I find something to distract me to shift gears and that helps me too.

Don't you just love Chick-Fil-A? I love their's the only fast food I eat.

    Thanks for sharing. Great Post.

  3. Great idea! Sometimes you just have to get out of your own headspace! I definitely need to find my own "nothing" box!

  4. I totally loved this post. I need to find my nothing box and probably will be the age you were when I find it. Blessings!

  5. That is so funny! My nothing box can always be found on a deserted beach, I must visit there more often... :-)

Also wanted to let you know I've nominated you for a Blog Award over on What Vanessa Does - pass over to my blog for details!
And keep up the fab posts :-)

  6. I stumble upon my nothing box every blue moon, and it kind of startles me because on a regular basis my mind goes non stop. I am learning how to not be startled when I do happen to get to my nothing box lol.

  7. Wow your so right! Now that I think about it, I am constantly making plans to meet and task to do, but never nothing. It's gonna be very hard because I am always thinking of something. If I had to choose I think I would find my nothing box in a cruise or resort, probably since I won't be thinking of anything. Great post!!
